Venerable Fan Yin (梵因法師), the first abbot of Fengshan Monastery, gave a heartfelt apology in a four-minute video posted online. In the video, he apologizes for allowing Mary Jin to seize control of the monks and Bliss and Wisdom Foundation, causing great harm to many people. After being encouraged to reveal the truth by the Dalai Lama and the 102nd Ganden Tripa Rizong Rinpoche, Ven Fan Yin finally gathered the courage to speak out. Ven Fan Yin encouraged the monks and lay people of Bliss and Wisdom, to face the truth with all of their courage and conscience, and not be fooled by Mary Jin’s manipulative tactics.

Here is the video (in Chinese):

Here is the English transcript, translated from Chinese:

Hello everyone, I am Fan Yin. Today I would like to apologize to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Master Jih-Chang, the two Senior Brothers, and students who have left Bliss and Wisdom in the past decade. Over the past decade, all of you have suffered a lot of harm and injury. I present my sincere apologies.

Over the past ten years and more, due to my indiscretion and lack of wisdom, as well as my lack of courage and initiative, I did not realize the truth and report what I had seen in a timely manner. This allowed Mary Jin Mengrong the opportunity to seize control of the entire Bliss and Wisdom sangha, as well as the Bliss and Wisdom Foundation, causing grievous harm and suffering to our followers and to society. I present my deepest apologies and confess my faults to all of you.

(Bow)

The reason why I realized the truth, and had the courage to publicize it, was because of the guidance and blessing I received from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Rizong Rinpoche. When I met His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Rizong Rinpoche, they clearly and unambiguously advised me that the Buddha’s teachings on the vinaya must be placed before guru devotion. They advised me that Mary Jin’s illegal activities, and her actions against the vinaya, must be clearly investigated and publicized.

Therefore, in this period of time, I have been putting forth my best effort to ensure that we can reveal the truth, and allow society to be aware of this. In this process, I encountered numerous difficulties and challenges. Due to the blessing and guidance of His Holiness, and the encouragement of many kind friends, I was able to overcome these difficulties without giving up. I express my greatest appreciation to them.

As for my friends, especially those who are still in the Bliss and Wisdom sangha, I hope that you will listen to your conscience, gather strength to face the truth, and discern the truth rationally. Please do not allow yourselves to be manipulated and fooled by Mary Jin any longer, as this will cause greater confusion and suffering to our followers.

In future, I will personally follow the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in formulating my goals and appeals, relying properly on His Holiness the Dalai Lama as my guru. I also hope to lead all of you in practicing His Holiness’ teachings, and realizing his aspirations. As the Dalai Lama says, he hopes to rekindle the scholarly spirit of the Nalanda tradition, and allow the pure lineage teachings to remain in this world. I hope that I can put forth my best effort, and work together with everyone, to invite His Holiness the Dalai Lama to come to Taiwan, so that he may personally give all of us his teachings and blessings.

Thank you everyone.
